Master of Science (M.S.) Requirements

In general we require a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.8 or higher for admission and a GPA of 3.0 or higher for consideration for financial assistance.

Prerequisite coursework includes:

• 2 semesters general chemistry with laboratory
• 2 semesters organic chemistry with laboratory
• 2 semesters physical chemistry with laboratory
• 1 semester biochemistry
• 2 semesters analytical chemistry with laboratory
• 1 semester inorganic chemistry with laboratory

Students who have not completed these requirements will be expected to satisfy undergraduate deficiencies before completion of their M.S. program.

From the Illinois State Graduate School Catalog...

To be admitted to the master's program a student must have at least a 2.8 GPA (on a scale in which A equals 4) for the last 60 hours of undergraduate work. The Department considers GRE scores for granting assistantships. Results of the General Test of the Graduate Record Examination should be sent to the Department's Graduate Program Director. A minimum TOEFL score of 600 (250 for computer‐based testing) is recommended for international students to be considered for admission to the program.
