Fellowship Opportunities

The Department of Chemistry offers the following fellowships. All eligible Chemistry and Biochemistry majors are automatically considered for departmental awards unless otherwise noted.

  • Antonini Research Fellow

    The Antonini Research Fellow supports students conducting summer research in the Department of Chemistry at Illinois State University. Applicants must have successfully completed two semesters of Organic Chemistry lecture and lab and be enrolled as a full-time student for the upcoming semester. Preference will be given to students conducting research with potential medical applications. A call for applications will take place early each spring semester. Applicants will provide both a letter of interest describing how the fellowship would impact their academic career and a letter of recommendation from a chemistry department faculty member who has agreed to guide the applicant’s research.

  • Redbird Chemistry Fellow

    The Redbird Chemistry Fellow supports students majoring in Chemistry/Biochemistry at Illinois State University who will conduct research during the summer in the Department of Chemistry. Applicants must have successfully completed or be in the process of completing two semesters of Organic Chemistry lecture and lab and be enrolled as full-time students for the upcoming semester. A call for applications will take place early each spring semester. Applicants will provide a letter of interest describing how the Fellowship would impact their academic career and a recommendation from a chemistry department faculty member who has agreed to guide the applicant’s research.

  • Mike Kurz Research Fellowship Award

    The Mike Kurz Graduate Research Fellowship Fund was created in honor of Dr. Mike Kurz, who chaired the Department of Chemistry from 1986 until his retirement in 2003. The purpose of this fund is to provide a base of financial support for master's students who are willing to devote their summers to working on their thesis research projects. Eligible applicants must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Applicants must be enrolled in good standing in the M.S. program in Chemistry and actively working on their thesis research project during the summer months. Applicants must have submitted a brief research proposal, resume, and letter of support from their thesis advisor. An essay is required to apply for this fellowship.
